Nassau County's Third Squad reports the details of an arrest made on May 7 at 2:13 p.m. in connection with a carjacking that occurred in Bellerose Village.
According to Third Squad Detective Occhino, at about 2 p.m. May 7, the manager of Rite Aid, located at 2 Whitney Avenue in Floral Park, observed defendant Dwayne Mills, 45, of West Hempstead, as he exited the store without paying for approximately $85 worth of cold and allergy medicines he had secreted in his pockets.
With the manager in foot pursuit, the defendant fled into Bellerose Village, where the 45-year-old female driver of a 2007 Hyundai was backing up in her driveway on 87th Drive. According to police, Mills entered the vehicle through the passenger-side door and attempted to force the victim out of the driver's seat, crushing her against the door.
Responding Floral Park police officers confronted Mills inside the vehicle and placed him under arrest, Third Squad police stated. While in police custody, the defendant provided false personal identification information, for which he was ultimately charged, and it was later determined that, on May 5, he had stolen approximately $280 worth of medication from a CVS in Rockville Centre, fleeing that store on a bicycle, as the store manager attempted, unsuccessfully, to detain him.
Mills is charged with robbery second degree and robbery third degree, false impersonation, resisting arrest and petit larceny. He was admitted to Winthrop University Hospital for an existing heart condition and will be arraigned at a practicable time and location.
