The "Floral Park for Jason Family Fund Event" will take place Saturday, April 12, from 4 to 9 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 35 Verbena Avenue, Floral Park.

The event will include a basketball free-throw contest, DJ, entertainment by local residents and Floral Park Memorial students, tattoos, nail painting, raffles, Chinese auction, bake sale and refreshments.

Committee members are selling raffles in advance. The cost of the tickets is $2 each or six for $10. First prize is a weekend spring or fall getaway in a seven-bedroom house with hot tub near Hunter Mountain, the second prize is a 32-inch LCD flat screen TV and the third prize is four box seat tickets to a Mets 2008 game. Jason Arroyo is a 12-year-old Floral Park resident who was struck by a car in January. He has sustained a severe head trauma and is in need of special neurological tests that are not covered by insurance. The families and friends of the Arroyo family are organizing this benefit to help defray the costs of the medical tests that Jason needs.
