Senator Craig Johnson recently honored Stewart Manor Deputy Mayor Kristina Lynch and Floral Park businesswoman Theresa Whalen as "Women of Distinction" for the commitment and contributions that each has made to their respective communities.

They were among 13 honorees from across the 7th Senate District that included community activists, local officials, religious and cultural leaders and children's advocates whose work enriches their neighborhoods and improves the lives of their neighbors.

"These women are here every day striving to make our communities better places," Senator Johnson said. "Individually, their work has touched countless lives. Collectively, they are a large part of what makes Nassau a great place to live. This recognition is a small token of appreciation that pales in comparison to their true impact."

Deputy Mayor Lynch has been a tireless advocate for her community since her election to the Stewart Manor village board of trustees in 2005. She was instrumental in putting together plans to reconstruct the village pool, which is one of the main social focal points in the village.

As the owner of Sterling Sign, Whalen has been a business leader in her village, as well as Nassau County. Her fortitude in pursuing and expanding her company has made her an inspiration.

The women were honored at a recent dinner at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing. The reception featured a keynote address by award-winning author Susan Isaacs.
