The board of trustees of the Village of Stewart Manor held a special board meeting Monday, Oct. 15 where members appointed Salvatore C. Manfre as the new mayor of Stewart Manor.

Village Justice Philip S. Milone swore Manfre in as mayor. His term will run through April 6, 2008. As announced previously, a special election will be held March 18, 2008 for a mayor who will serve former Mayor Joseph Troiano's remaining term of one year, through March 2009.

Mayor Manfre is no stranger to public service. He served on the board of trustees as deputy mayor from April 2003 to March 2007. He cited his love of Stewart Manor, the confidence he has in the current village team and his desire to unify the village while quickly resolving several outstanding items.

The next regular meeting of the Stewart Manor Board of Trustees will be Monday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. At that time, Mayor Manfre will be more formally introduced to the community. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
