McCarthy and Schumer Join Together to Strengthen Background Checks

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy and Senator Charles Schumer have joined forces to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. Each year, thousands of individuals prohibited from purchasing firearms slip through the cracks because of flaws in the background check system, they said. McCarthy and Schumer have introduced legislation to improve the background checks and keep guns out of the hands of felons and individuals adjudicated as mentally deficient.
