The Nassau Regional EMS Council held an awards dinner at the Coral House in Baldwin to honor recipients of the annual EMS awards. The Council honored Daniel O'Keefe, EMT-P, of Stewart Manor with the EMS Leadership of the Year award for demonstrating outstanding leadership skills.

He was the driving force that rejuvenated and energized the Stewart Manor Fire Department's Ambulance Squad. He actively pursued and secured new members and inspired current members to increase their level of involvement and waning members to renew their certifications and resume active participation.

O'Keefe has been a member of the Stewart Manor Fire Department for the past 12 years. During his tenure he has served as assistant chief and chief of the department. He was also the recipient of the Nassau County Fireman of the Year award and the American Red Cross Hero of the Year award.
