The Village of Floral Park's Substance Education Council, along with various school and community groups, is proud to promote Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-31. This year's theme is "100% Me ... Drug Free!" Research shows that active, supportive involvement by families and communities can help teens avoid underage drinking and drug use.

During Red Ribbon Week, students from the local schools will tie red ribbons between their schools as a sign of unity in the fight to combat drug abuse. Additionally, students in John Lewis Childs School, Our Lady of Victory School, Floral Park-Bellerose School and Floral Park Memorial High School will receive red ribbons to wear as a reminder to stay drug free.

The Red Ribbon Week observance is an anti-drug education and drug abuse awareness program sponsored by the National Family Partnership. The focus is to educate individuals, families and communities on the destructive effects of drugs and the positive alternative life choices that are available to youth.
