The Floral Park Fire Department has created a scholarship for a student that has provided exemplary service to the community just as Robert "Bobby" Getschel did.

Bobby tragically passed away only one day after being voted into the Floral Park Fire Department Rescue Company. Bobby was also an active member of the Nassau County Police Explorers. He was only 18 years old.

Please attend the 1st Annual Bobby Getschel Memorial Softball Tournament at The Floral Park Recreation Center Oct. 27 and 28. This is a double elimination, one-pitch tournament. In an attempt to keep the day moving, four games will be played on Friday, Oct. 27, starting at 7 p.m. All players must be a minimum of 18 years old. Must have a minimum of five males and five females.

A fundraiser will follow at Floral Park Fire Department Headquarters, located at 14 Vernon Street, on Saturday, Oct. 28.
