More than 100 students at Sewanhaka High School participated in a fashion show recently that raised a whopping $2,000 for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. Students and teachers modeled designer clothing and shoe lines from well-known manufacturers such as Rothco, Puma, Sean John, Mandee's, Estelle's Dressy Dresses, DiRe's Tuxedos, Timberland, Kenneth Cole and Adidas.

Additional highlights at the fashion show included raffles, student and teacher "makeovers" and clothing designs from students. Students from the "Beauty Culture" class at the high school provided makeup and hair artistry for all participants in the fashion show.

Coordinators of the fundraising event, Sandra Venturi, Veronica Venturi and Diane Ventura, said they chose the House for recipients of their fundraising proceeds because 16-year-old Sewanhaka High School student Abigail Trent was a former resident. Trent underwent heart surgery in fifth-grade and a kidney transplant in eighth-grade and is doing extremely well today.

"We love the House because it's a great place," Ventura said. "It's beautiful, cozy and homey and it does wonderful things for the residents."
