"On May 29, we remember the more than one million heroic men and women who have given their lives to preserve our freedom throughout America's history. It is our solemn duty to reflect upon our own blessings and remember those who sacrificed to secure our liberty and freedom life for future generations of Americans.

"Again, we will celebrate Memorial Day during a time of war, as brave soldiers from all corners of America risk all far from home. We must continue to support and pray for our troops currently serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.

"It is important that we remember the families of those who have served and are currently serving our nation. For every troop lost, there is family facing enormous emotional and oftentimes financial hardship. When a soldier pays the ultimate price for our freedom, we must take responsibility for the wellbeing of the family he or she leaves behind.

"No one has stood more strongly for freedom than our troops and their families. We have a moral obligation to honor these patriotic Americans not only in our thoughts and prayers, but in our actions. This Memorial Day take the time to thank a family who lost a loved one while defending our freedom.

"As years go by, a new generation will take up the enormous responsibility of defending our liberty. It is our responsibility to make sure today's young people understand the sacrifices so many brave Americans and their families have made and how someday their generation may have to answer the call. We must remember and pay tribute to those who gave all for our nation, and we must make sure the next generation of Americans does the same."
