The week of May 14-20 has been designated Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in the Village of Floral Park. Deputy Mayor Kevin Greene invites all residents to attend the village board's next meeting, Tuesday, May 16, at Floral Park Village Hall when trustees will honor the Floral Park Fire Department and Rescue Company No. 1 for their dedication and commitment to the village in providing this "vital" public service.
The proclamation declaring May 14-20 Emergency Medical Services Week reads as follows:
Whereas, Emergency Medical Services is a vital public service; and
Whereas, the members of the Emergency Medical Services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
Whereas, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
Whereas, the Emergency Medical Services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators and others; and
Whereas, the members of the emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and
Whereas, annually the volunteers of the Floral Park Fire Department respond to over 1,200 EMS 911 calls within our village; and
Whereas, it is exceptional to note that the volunteers of the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department remain one of the few departments providing their community with primary 911 response; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of Emergency Medical Services providers, especially those dedicated volunteers of Floral Park Rescue Company No. 1 and the Floral Park Fire Department.
Now, therefore, I, Phil Guarnieri, mayor, do hereby proclaim the week of May 14-20 as Emergency Medical Services Week in the Incorporated Village of Floral Park.
