Angel Soto is the Resident Party candidate seeking re-election to his second term as mayor of South Floral Park. As current mayor, Soto, a 31-year resident, works closely with the Nassau County Village Officials Association and is currently chair of the Village Office of Emergency Management. Further, he was recently appointed to the executive board of the Nassau County Village Officials Association.

Before he was elected mayor, Soto served two four-year terms as trustee. In this capacity, he was appointed to represent the village on the Water Authority of Western Nassau County. He helped create this authority and served on its board of directors. Soto said he was instrumental in lowering the water rates by over 50 percent. He has also served as a fire department commissioner, helping acquire much-needed equipment, as commissioner of community affairs, roads commissioner, as deputy mayor and on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

In 1991, Soto, along with five other residents, established a civic association in South Floral Park. He served as treasurer for three years and was instrumental in developing new programs and activities for the village. Among these new programs: the establishment of an annual Armed Forces Day ceremony and the Veteran's Memorial Plaque. As an officer of the civic association, he represented the village in the local community action group, The Water Bill Watchdogs. Moreover, he was former president of The Family & Friends Council of Lawrence Nursing Care Center, Inc., whose goal is to participate in efforts to enrich, enhance and improve the quality of life for residents.

He is a member of American Legion Post 1033 in Elmont, serving as assistant adjutant and chair of the Boys' State Committee and Oratorical Program. Currently, he chairs the Nassau County American Legion Oratorical Program. He is also a member of the Post Color Guard. Soto was awarded Legionnaire of the Year in 2001-2002. He is also the recipient of the Town of Hempstead Veteran Medal. Recently, he organized and coordinated a successful program to collect various items for local military personnel serving overseas.

Soto has been married for 37 years to Elva. They have two children: Nichole Soto-Munch and Philip.

Jose Santos is a Civic Party candidate seeking election as mayor of South Floral Park.

He has been a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the South Floral Park Fire Department for almost two years and currently serves as president of the South Floral Park Civic Association.

Santos has worked in retail management for the past 30 years. He is currently a design consultant with Ethan Allen. Previously he was manager of the Elmont Sleepy's showroom on Hempstead Turnpike where he had the opportunity of meeting many fellow residents of South Floral Park.

As South Floral Park mayor, Santos said he wants to improve the quality of life in the village, create more community awareness among the village residents and maintain the character of the village.

Santos moved from Queens Village to South Floral Park on Christmas Eve 1999 along with his wife, Kathy, and daughter, Francesca. They reside on Frederick Avenue.
