Henry "Harry" W. Dwyer, 73, of The Fairways at Lakeridge in Lakewood, formerly of Floral Park, died on Feb. 11, 2006 at home. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy and the College of the Holy Cross (1954) and received his master of public administration in 1979 from LIU. Mr. Dwyer was a Naval officer, NY Telephone Co. manager, village mayor, NYS Assemblyman and Chief Deputy County Executive of NC before becoming director for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rockville Centre. During his 12-year tenure with the Diocese, he served Bishops John McGann and James McHugh, retiring in 1999.

He was former member of the board of directors of Interboro Mutual Insurance Company in NY, a member of the Finance Council of the Diocese of Trenton and member of the board of associates at Georgian Court College in Lakewood. He was a former chairperson of the National Advisory Council of US Conference of Catholic Bishops, chairman of the board of governors of Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, a member of the board of directors of Catholic Health Services of LI, Catholic Charities (Diocese of Rockville Centre) and St. Francis Hospital (The Heart Center). He was also a founding member and past president of The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of LI, chairman of NC Public Utility Agency and chairman of NC Criminal Justine Coordinating Council. His Ecclesiastical honors include Knight Commander of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Knight of Malta and Knight of St. Gregory the Great, the highest Papal honor bestowed on a lay person not a head of state.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Jane Hopkins; his four sons and three daughters-in-law, Paul and Angela, Peter and Annmarie, Matthew and Kathleen and Michael; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Linda; six grandchildren, Paul, Peter, Victoria, Sarah, Eamon, Bernadette (Casey) Smith, Joseph and Elissa Metz and Hon. Francis and Barbara Purcell.

A Funeral Liturgy was offered at St. Agnes Cathedral. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Donations in his memory may be made to Mercy Medical Center, Rockville Centre, NY.
