When the MTA/LIRR presented their proposed Main Line Corridor Improvements Project, which entails, among other things, adding an additional track to the LIRR Main Line, village residents organized and put together an action plan to fight it. One of the leaders in the forefront of that fight was Tim Dalton, owner of Dalton's Funeral Home.

Dalton's work on the fight is well known throughout the village, Assemblyman Tom Alfano noted. When the MTA/LIRR held its public hearings at Jericho Terrace, village residents jammed the hearing and spoke out strongly against the plan.

Assemblyman Alfano joined the fight and initiated an email petition, which garnered close to 1,000 emails against the project. During the public hearing, the State Assembly was in session and Alfano asked village resident and business owner Tim Dalton to speak on his behalf at the hearing.

"Tim was a natural to be my spokesman on this important quality of life issue," Alfano said. "He understood the human cost, quality of life cost and community cost to Floral Park, Bellerose Village, Bellerose Terrace and Stewart Manor."

In recognition of Dalton's work, advocacy and spearheading an effective community awareness and advertising campaign, Assemblyman Alfano presented Dalton with a State Assembly citation and presented him with his Community Service Award. "I personally can't thank Tim enough for caring about our village and community at large," Alfano said. "He's effective, articulate and made a real difference."
