An audit of Hempstead's Sanitary District #6 has found that the district's refuse collectors routinely work about 25 hours a week or less, but are paid full-time salaries, Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman said. The audit also found that financial controls in the district were nearly non-existent, with no timekeeping for the district's 200-plus employees and no competitive bidding for goods and services purchased.
