Gisela Bye, 80, a former Bellerose Terrace resident, passed away on Sept. 30, 2005 at the Robinson Terrace Residential and Rehabilitation Center in Stamford, NY. Gisela was born Jan. 10, 1925 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the daughter of Lena and Ferdinand Wohlfarth. She married Lawrence W. Bye on June 26, 1948, a marriage of more than 57 years.
Gisela was a gifted handball and tennis player. This was no small feat since there were few ladies competing in handball during the 1940s. She played against men and that was where she got to know Lawrence, her future husband. She was a gifted artist and attended Cooper Union on a full scholarship. She spent many years working as an advertising artist at Hoppmann's Studios.
During her life Gisela was active in the Cub Scouts, the Civic Action Council, the Bellerose Terrace Civic Association and the Water Bill Watchdogs.
Gisela is survived by her husband Lawrence; son and grandson, Robert and Charles; brother Rudolph Wohlfarth (Lena); niece Linda Barbaccia and her husband and son, Salvatore and Daniel; nephew Ferdinand Wohlfarth (Marion).
Arrangements were made by the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford. Funeral services at the funeral home. Burial West Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson.
Eileen Cluney Haberkern, 88, died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2005. She was formerly of Floral Park where she had many friends and cherished memories. Wife of the late Joseph. Mother of Mary, Joe Jr. (deceased), John, Kathy, Ellie, Alice and Peggy. Mother-in-law of Ann, Nancy, Alan, Rick and Phil. Grandmother of Debbie, Joe III (Sonja), Christine, TJ (Jennifer), Kimberly, Lee, Michael, Kiera and Nicole. Great-grandmother of Taylor and Alexa. Aunt and great-aunt of many. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, New Hyde Park. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Snows RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetry. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
