Alfano Sworn-In, Promoted in Assembly
Fresh off his landslide victory in November's election where he was top vote getter in western Nassau County, Assemblyman Tom Alfano was sworn into office at the State Capitol and promoted in the Assembly leadership. Starting next week, Alfano will not only take the top seat on the Assembly Judiciary Committee, but he will lead the Nassau Assembly delegation to Albany and be a senior Long Island assemblyman on the Assembly Labor Committee.

A Year in Review
Martin Marshak, a former assistant district attorney and longtime community and political activist, accepted the Democratic nomination to become New York State senator from the 7th District. Marshak, a life-long New York State resident who has lived in Great Neck for close to 30 years, ran on a platform that addressed issues like education, health care, government accountability to the taxpayers and the environment. "The failure of this Senate, and in particular the Republican majority, to address the issues that matter most to the people of this district is something that is deeply troubling to me..." he said. The 7th District encompasses the Town of North Hempstead as well as Elmont, Floral Park, South Floral Park, Stewart Manor, Bellerose, Franklin Square and part of Hicksville.
