Stewart Manor's Heroes of Yesterday and Today
Appropriately held on Sept. 11, the Village of Stewart Manor rededicated a memorial to two local heroes that died exactly 50 years apart to the day: Marine Lieutenant Thomas McVeigh, killed in action in Korea at "Bloody Ridge" Sept. 11, 1951, and David Leistman, killed in the North Tower of the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001.
Moratorium Extended; Board Seeks Residential Input
Floral Park Trustee Gerry Bambrick has reported that the moratorium on permits for the subdivision of residential lots has been extended for the purpose of seeking input from village residents. He, along with Village Attorney John Ryan, Building Superintendent Steve Siwinski and Albert D'Agostino, an outside consultant, have contacted the presidents of the local civic associations and have arranged to speak at their upcoming meetings.
Battlin' at Belmont
Belmont Park kick-started its fall meeting, hosting three Grade I races this past Saturday that lived up to their history, international flavor and destination on this year's road to the Breeders' Cup championships. Just two days back from the fine racing at Saratoga, the horses and riders picked up here right where they left off upstate.
