The MTA Long Island Rail Road will perform several major construction projects during the 11-week period from June 21 through Sept. 6. The summer program includes the renovation of track, signals and switches at a major switching point near Queens Village as well as track renovations between Bayside and Great Neck. Schedule revisions due to this work include the temporary cancellation of two morning rush hour and two evening rush hour trains on the Hempstead branch and the temporary cancellation of one evening rush hour train on the Ronkonkoma branch. The Sewanhaka Central High School District also saw its budget fail May 18 by 397 votes. The board of education and the district decided to reduce its budget by $741,800. Residents of the district will now be voting on a $118, 403, 750 as opposed to the $119,145,556 budget. FULL STORY
