The board of education of the Sewanhaka Central High School District rescheduled its 2003 annual budget hearing from the originally scheduled date of Tuesday, May 6 to Tuesday, May 27. The new date coincides with the board's regular monthly meeting for May.
The change was made as a result of recent actions by the state government, which will move the annual budget vote back by two weeks to June 3. The additional time is intended to give districts a more complete picture of the amount of state aid they can expect and thus be able to develop a more accurate projection of the level of taxes that each district will need to pay for education.
The board urges all citizens who wish to hear the current status of state aid or who wish to comment on the budget to attend its annual hearing Tuesday, May 27. The hearing will take place at Sewanhaka High School at 8 p.m.
The board met on May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Administrative Offices, located at 77 Landau Avenue in Floral Park. Officials anticipated that a major portion of the meeting was to be held in executive session to discuss personnel and matters within the attorney-client relationship. The public session was expected to begin at approximately 9 p.m.
The next slated board of education meeting is Wednesday, June 25 (note change from original date).
