As the one-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks approaches, local church and community organizations are planning memorials in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the day's tragic events. The following memorial services and events will take place in the Floral Park, Bellerose and Stewart Manor communities:
Village of Floral Park
Village Hall, Floral Park 326-6300
-Memorial garden dedication: Spirit Day Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. at Heritage Park (rain date Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon).
-Flag display: Village will display American flags along busiest streets from now until after the garden dedication. Residents invited to display their flags as well.
Village of Stewart Manor
Village Hall, Stewart Manor 354-1800
-Tree planting ceremony: Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the municipal lot at Chester and Covert Avenues.
Village of Bellerose

-Candlelight procession: Walk from St. Thomas Episcopal Church (after its 7:30 p.m. service) to the Garden of Remembrance, located near the firehouse, on Monday, Sept. 9. Light refreshments will follow at village hall.
-Light a candle: As a sign of solidarity, place a lighted candle on the outside front step of your home Wednesday, Sept. 11.

-Day of Remembrance: service at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11.
-Silent meditation: the church will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for prayer, silence and meditation.
-Worship service: at 7:30 p.m. with hymns, scripture readings and prayer. Floral Park Fire Department Chief Raymond Neufeld will share a few reflections.
