The North Hempstead Councilmanic District Commission has been hosting several public hearings to receive input from town residents on whether town government should be reconstructed. The purpose of the meetings is to provide residents with the opportunity to hear testimonies from experts and voice their own concerns regarding a proposal to implement a Council District System, also known as a Ward System, to replace the town's current system of electing council members at-large. A communion breakfast, a brief ceremony at the firemen's monument and a Mass at Our Lady of Victory paid tribute to James and Keith Fairben, Joseph Reidman and Tom Slevin, four members of the Floral Park Fire Department who died this year.
