Garden City Police Officer Buonaiuto arrested three males, a 17-year-old from Flushing, Queens, a 17-year-old from Whitestone, Queens and an 18-year-old from Bellerose, for allegedly throwing 10-inch metal railroad plate screws at random parked cars in Garden City on April 11-12. The screws are an estimated two pounds each. According to police reports, the alleged incidences took place on Stewart Avenue, Harrison Street, Hampton Road, Westbury Road and Euston Road. Fortunately, no one was reportedly injured in any of the cars at the time of the incidents.

While investigating the six criminal mischief cases, three on April 11 and three on April 12, Officer Buonaiuto observed a male subject urinating at Westbury Road and Stewart Avenue on April 12 at 1:46 a.m. When he approached the car to cite the subject for violating the village's code, he spotted a bag in the backseat filled with railroad screws and large rocks. All three subjects later gave statements at Garden City police headquarters after their arrests.

All three subjects have been charged with felony criminal mischief, misdemeanor criminal mischief and possession of stolen property. The 17-year-old Whitestone resident was also charged with public urination.

According to Lt. Kenneth Jackson of the Garden City Police Department, area detectives are currently looking into similar cases in Floral Park and Queens.
