Forty First Sewanhaka District Music Festival Feb. 7
The 41st Annual District Music Festival, sponsored by the Sewanhaka Central High School District, will be held at Sewanhaka High School Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. The festival is dedicated to Dr. George Goldstein, Sewanhaka's superintendent of schools for the past 17 years. In his first year as superintendent, he restored calm and order at a time when this district was in turmoil from a civil rights audit and headed for disaster. By his second year, Goldstein declared that Sewanhaka would become an "Environment of Excellence." During his years of leadership, Sewanhaka became one of the most honored districts in the State of New York - and in the entire nation. The US Department of Education designated each of the district's five schools as a National School of Excellence and Sewanhaka is one of the few districts in America ever to be named a National District of Excellence. The office of the governor has presented Goldstein and the district the highest recognition it can give in the field of education - The Governor's Excelsior Award - for world class performance.
