Members of the Floral Park Police Benevolent Association (PBA) spearheaded the recent volleyball tourney at Floral Park Memorial High School to benefit families of victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack from Floral Park, Bellerose and Bellerose Terrace. The event was quite successful - PBA members Sergeant Ron Gagliano and Police Officer Kim Scanlon and Mike Saville recently presented a check for nearly $15,000 to Community Spirit Fund Chairman Bill Gruelich. This was the largest, single donation to date raised by any local organization for the Community Spirit Fund.

Gruelich said other donations have been received from individuals, local merchants, the proceeds from a block party that was canceled after the attack, the proceeds from a garage sale, a cookie sale by local children, the Citizens Party, the Calvary Full Gospel Fellowship and the John Lewis Childs PTA from the Harvest Fair.

Community Spirit Fund Chairman Bill Gruelich accepts a check from Sergeant Ron Gagliano and Police Officers Mike Saville and Kim Scanlon. The Police Benevolent Association (PBA) raised almost $15,000 with the support of residents and local businesses during a recent benefit volleyball tourney.

The committee requests that all donations from individuals and organizations are received by the fund by Dec. 15 so the money can be distributed to affected families before the holidays. Donations should be sent to The Community Spirit Fund, c/o John Stimpfel, 234 Cherry Lane, Floral Park, NY 11001. Call Gruelich at 437-3000 for more information.
