Fighting the Nursing Shortage
New York State Assemblyman Tom Alfano joined with Assembly Minority Task Force Chairman Maureen O'Connell in announcing major health care recommendations in an effort to attract more people into the nursing profession. O'Connell, a registered nurse and ranking member of the Assemblyman Health Committee, made the announcement with Alfano at Winthrop-University Hospital. Surrounded by health care professionals, Alfano and O'Connell made the recommendations based on testimony and hearings held from around the state.
'It's Not Just Air Traffic Noise'
After reading "Residents Fed Up With Air Traffic, Noise," published in the July 20 issue of the Floral Park Dispatch, a Bellerose resident said the influx of aircraft coming in and out of nearby airports like Kennedy and LaGuardia isn't the only source of noise pollution. Trains also contribute to the problem.
Adults and the Martial Arts
Charles Water's Karate & Fitness, located at 122 Hillside Avenue, had a clinic for its adult students. The clinic had a couple of special guests, including master's instructors in the Soo Bahk Do Federation.
Floral Park Swimmers Awarded at Poolside Ceremony
The Floral Park Pool held an awards ceremony for members of the swim team, drawing several hundred local residents, including swimmers, their families and friends. Head swim coach Greg Mogil, coaches Jackie Stamulis and Erin Stephens, assistant pool director Barbara Smith, pool director John Savarese, engineer Steve Golasso, Floral Park Mayor Ann Corbett and board trustees Kevin Greene and Gerry Bambrick were all on hand to present the awards.
