Arrest Made in Floral Park Murder
Nassau County Homicide Squad detectives arrested a 21-year-old Bronx man last Friday night in connection with the murder of Daniel Oscar Pomales, 35, of Queens Village. Pomales was found shot dead Aug. 15 in the basement of his rented office building, located at 229 Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, which housed his online vacation property rental company, OnLine Rentals. An employee arriving to work last Wednesday morning discovered Pomales lying on the floor in the rear room, a victim of several gun shot wounds to the head and back.

Grant Enables 50 Bellerose Students to Enroll in Virtual Y
Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA), one of the nation's fastest growing software providers for eBusiness management, will present a $25,000 grant to the YMCA of Greater New York on Aug. 31 for their literacy-based after school program, the Virtual Y. The grant will enable 50 public school children from Bellerose, Queens to enroll in this after school alternative in the upcoming 2001-02 academic year.

F.P. Women's Club Collects Clothes for Needy Campers
Members of the Floral Park Women's Club load a van of clothing destined for use by needy children at charity summer camps in the Harriman State Park through the "Duds" program, founded a decade ago by Floral Park Mayor Ann Corbett and her husband, Bill. Club members Bridget Ann Turadek, Betsy Pastorini, Margaret Mastandrea, Mayor Corbett and Bernie Hayes load over 65 large bags of gently used and new clothing and towels. The last shipment of the season will be delivered Aug. 17. Donations of clothes and towels for children ages 6 to 16 are being accepted in plastic bags or boxes at Bill Corbett's office, 113 South Tyson Avenue, or at 102 Chestnut Avenue. The Women's Club thanks Don Vitulli, Floral Park Florists, for the use of his van to transport the clothing to the camps.
