All-Day Camp Proves Successful in Floral Park
Floral Park's Recreation Center, located on Stewart Street near the New Hyde Park border, is offering an all-day summer camp for the first time to children ages 5 through 12. There's currently a waiting list to take part in this summer's new program, which ends during the week of Aug. 13. Recreation Superintendent Kurt Meyfohrt advises parents to sign their children up early for next year by calling 326-6334.

West Nile Confirmed in Mosquito Pool, Live Sparrow Collected in Bellerose
New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Neal Cohen confirmed last week that the New York State Department of Health found evidence of the West Nile Virus in a mosquito pool and live sparrow collected in Bellerose. While West Nile has been prevalent along the East Coast this season, these are the first findings in New York City so far this year.

Doodlebugs Make a Run at the Nassau County Championship
The Floral Park Fire Department Doodlebugs participated in the Nassau County old fashion drill, hosted by the Baldwin Fire Department and held at the Hempstead training arch. On Friday, July 13, the Doodlebugs, noted as one of the teams to watch, represented the Floral Park Fire Department. Expected to take firm leads in the events of running ladder (they took fifth place in the state tourney), running hose replacement, two-into-one and buckets, the Doodlebugs looked good in all these events during this year. The "bugs" have been running strong over the past several weeks.
