Floral Park Presents Second Annual Belmont Festival
Featuring a festive parade followed by a 5K run, the Village of Floral Park will pay tribute to the third jewel of thoroughbred racing's Triple Crown as it celebrates the 133rd running of the Belmont Stakes, beginning Saturday, June 2.
Republicans Bent on Winning
The question of who the Republican Party would run as their candidate for the position of Nassau County Executive has been one where the answer changed several times in the last few months, with the party leaders never officially announcing who the candidate would be until last Thursday night. The questions remained until the last minute, with one Republican announcing his candidacy, with apparent party backing, on Tuesday and it becoming clear by Thursday that it would be another, a businessman, not a politician, that the party would nominate at the annual convention.
Knights of Columbus Bowling
The Floral Park Knights of Columbus bowlers ended their season with a bang - and what a bang it was! Twenty-two of 40 pin-spillers reached "The Hotshot" level, putting on the best show this league has ever seen. Mike Gallagher led the wood wallopers with a sizzling 641 set, on games of 208 and 245, winning the High Average Crown, trailed by John Fittipaldi, whose 228, 205 and 206 games gave him a fine 633. Joe O'Donnell was there, with games of 202 and 236, netting him a 629, up on Paul Simonetti, whose 228 and 201 solos led to a 610 trio and Mike Honan netted a 600 set showing a 225 loner.
