Major George Polarek, the Salvation Army's Nassau County director, presents an "Appreciation Plaque" to John Stimpfel, president of the Floral Park Kiwanis at the Army's recent "Salute to Volunteers" dinner for their efforts in last Christmas' Red Kettle collection.

This annual event, now in its 20th year, is designed to thank the many individuals and volunteers who staff the familiar red kettles and ring the well-known bells at Christmas, and the Floral Park group have been collecting a little more each year. "It is the assistance we receive from great organizations like the Kiwanis which helps us to help needy families not just during the holiday season, but all year-round," says Major Polarek.
