Republican Legislature Decides Not to Override County Executive's Vetoes
After the Nassau county executive vetoed items, including a 15.4 percent property tax increase, in a budget passed by the Democratic majority of the Nassau County Legislature last month, the Democrats called on their Republican colleagues to provide three of the 13 votes to override those vetoes. However, each of the nine legislators in the Republican delegation voted not to override, leaving the county executive's vetoes intact.
