The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University, a gifted youth program of international scope, held special awards ceremonies this spring to honor hundreds of top students in grades five through eight.

SFT Members Welcome Special Guest at 24th NEA/NY Delegate Assembly
Eight members of the Sewanhaka Federation of Teachers were among almost 500 delegates to the 24th annual Delegate Assembly of the National Education Association of New York (NEA/NY), which was held in Saratoga Springs, from March 31 to April 2. In attendance were SFT President Matt Jacobs, treasurer Frank McHugh, Jennifer Gordon-Tennant, and Bill Paupeck - all from Elmont Memorial HS, SFT Vice President Al Klieger and Tony Katkowski of Sewanhaka HS, Tom Cook of New Hyde Park Memorial HS and Anna Zurawinsky, who represented retired teachers. NEA/NY President Greg Nash, a former English teacher from the Sewanhaka District, presided over the assembly.

Knights of Columbus Bowling
The Floral Park Knights of Columbus keglers ended their 99-00 season with the usual "2345 Gusto," letting the Sterling Lanes lumber know that they were mauling the maple right up to the end of this fine, colorful season.

Rifle Team Wins County Championship
The Sewanhaka Federation of Teachers extends its congratulations to one of its members, Mr. George Hathaway, and the members of the Sewanhaka Central High School District Rifle Team for their fourth county championship since 1990. Based on its performance from November through February, the team was rated first in Nassau County for 22 cartridge, and second in Nassau County for air rifle.
