Honorable Ann Castagna of Stewart Manor, Mayor Thomas Van Buskirk of Bellerose Village, Floral Park Trustees Ann Corbett, and Phil Guarnieri and Trustee Angel Soto of South Floral Park declared Girl Scout Week in the Floral Park-Bellerose-Stewart Manor Association from March 11 to 17, celebrating the 88th anniversary of Girl Scouting in America. The proclamation was presented to Meredith Kerner of Junior Troop 1410, our association's top Girl Scout cookie seller of 1999 with a total of 423 boxes, and outstanding cookie sellers: Sabrina Troeger of Troop 1483 who sold 340 cookie boxes, Katie Wallner of Troop 1410 who sold 315 boxes, Meghan and Katie Schiffer of Troops 1410 and 1271 who together sold 321 boxes and Stacey Bonar of Troop 1334 selling 300 boxes.
This fund raiser helps the Girl Scouts of Nassau County maintain the beautiful camps, provide for training programs for leaders and offer wide opportunities to girls age five through adulthood. Thanks go to all who continue to support Girl Scouting in our communities.
Girl Scout Sunday, affords our local troops the opportunity to show their appreciation to the pastors of Our Lady of Victory Church, Christ Lutheran Church, St. Thomas Episcopal Church and United Methodist Church for having graciously opened their doors to Girl Scouts, so they have a place to hold their meetings and special events. The troops attended services and assisted with the coffee hour that followed.
The association also thanks the school board members and principals of the local schools for without the additional use of their rooms, it would be impossible to serve the 500 Girl Scouts in our communities.
