The Floral Park Knights of Columbus wood spillers seem to be stuck in neutral gear, these last couple of weeks, giving rise to the thought that the pressure of the "new millennium" might have dulled the sharpness that was so much their trademark in past outings, during the initial half of this season. Nevertheless, bowling pundits call such a letdown just a "bump in the road" and look for a reawakening of a prowess that made the local Caseys something to be reckoned with, every time they unzipped their bowling bags.

Last Thursday's "Bellringer" in The Hotshot Department, was Chet Strzepek, whose 567 set showed a pair of 200 nifties, followed by Bob Mashburn's solid 549 and Jim Kearney's 537 effort. John O'Grady was on Kearney's heels, carding a 536, while "Knobby" Gregory and Jack Price were doing a "brother act," at 533. Greg Simicich and Paul Simonetti crossed the finish line hand-in-hand, both rolling 531s while Rich Lahey and Pat Murphy added to the "Brotherhood Knottings" -- both posting 529s, with Pat tossing a 215 loner, on the way. An Eddy Hackimer 201 solo led to a 512 trio, edging Pat Sweeney's 510 showing and Charley Bingold carved out a 507 set. Tom Moore found himself in a strange spot -- the bottom of the Hotshot list -- with a mere 503 but look out next week! Mike Gallagher had his face pressed to the Hotshot window, with a 499 "almost."

In team action, the Tom Moore-led Medical Marvels squeezed past Fred Dorgler, Sr.'s Fathers and Sons four, via a 4-3 count while Pat Sweeney was piloting his Marksmen to a 7-0 blanking of the We're Not Ready four captained by Jack Price. The Whatateam crew, bossed by John O'Grady did a 5-2 number on the MP-JR combine, with Mike Honan in the driver's seat while Bob Mashburn and his Team Moss II aggregation was doing a whitewash 7-0 job on the Frank Dehler-led Mike's Four. Ending the night's "Columbian Cannonading," the Hurricanes, led by Greg Simicich, took the measure of the Eddy Hackimer-led Little Guys, in a 5-2 encounter.
