Perhaps we red-hot fans of the red-hot Floral Park Knights of Columbus Bowlers look for every outing to be a blockbuster, to see the lumber being chopped down in large numbers and feeling a little bit down when the scores, on a given night, aren't of the astounding variety.
Last Thursday night was one of the "not-looked-for" nights when the pins withstood the onslaught of The Local Caseys and didn't topple as often as they did in past outings of this remarkable season.
Joe Silvestri grabbed The Brass Ring, in the Hotshot "Merry-go-Round," rolling a 248 beauty on his way to a fine 617 three-gamer, just nosing out Charley Bingold, whose 222 and 202 singles led to a nifty 616 count and Jack Price, with a 579 set, built on games of 207 and 229, settled in the third slot. A 224 solo gave Paul Mastronardi a 571 trio, Pat Sweeney spilled 564 sticks, 201 in one outing with a 199 "almost" thrown in and Tom Moore loafed to a 559. Jim Kearney had a solid 540 while Eddy Hackimer was building a 539 total, that included a 215 single effort and Mike Honan's 228 noisemaker led to a 521 count. Mike Derby carded a 506 and John Fittipaldi made the "Hotshot Express" with a 208 single effort.
Team action saw the Tom Moore-led Medical Marvels squeeze past the We're Not Ready four, bossed by Jack Price, via a 4-3 count while John O'Grady was piloting his What-a-Team gang to a 4-3, nailbiter, decision over Mike Honan's MP-JR outfit. The Little Guys, with Ed Hackimer in the driver's seat, whitewashed Bob Mashburn's Team Moss II, in a 7-0 rout, and The Hurricanes, captained by Greg Simicich, eked out a 4-3 decision over Fred Dorgler and his Fathers and Sons unit. Turning out the lights and putting the key in the door, Pat Sweeney and his Marksmen shot down Frank Dehler and his Mike's Four, in a 7-0 basher.
