The recent cold spell was felt, in no small part, by the Floral Park Knights of Columbus pin spillers as they charged the Sterling Lanes lumber last Thursday. The dip in the mercury brought a halt to the hot streak that was so much a part of the local keglers, cooling them off in the same unexpected manner that the weatherman sprung upon the local populace.
Leading a surprisingly small parade of Hotshots was Mike Gallagher, who scorched the lanes with a 278 single beauty, adding a 204 count to post a nifty 629 set, while Tom Moore was fashioning a solid 578. Greg Simicich used a 200 solo to put a 571 trio on the books. Pat Murphy cranked out a 544 three-gamer, a step up on a Chet Strzepek 540, while Charley Bingold chimed in with a 526. Eddy Hackimer's 206 loner led to a 523 count, a few paces up on Frank Dehler's 516 total and Jack Price squeezed into The Elite bracket with a 514.
Team action saw the Tom Moore-led Medical Marvels whitewash the Little Guys in a 7-0 rout, while Jack Price was leading his We're Not Ready crew to a 4-3 nail-biter win over the Whatateam quartet, bossed by John O'Grady. Team Moss II, with Bob Mashburn calling signals, did a 7-0 number on Mike Honan and his MPJR quartet. Mike's 4, captained by Frank Dehler, edged the Greg Simicich-led Hurricanes in a 4-3 squeaker, and turning out the lights and putting the key in the door, the Fathers and Sons, with Fred Dorgler Sr. in the driver's seat, handed Pat Sweeney and his Marksmen a 5-2 setback
