The Sewanhaka Central High School District Board of Education announces to the public and leaders of all community organizations that it will conduct its annual special preliminary budget session at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 25. The meeting will take place at 8 p.m. in the third floor Board Conference Room of Sewanhaka High School, Tulip and Covert Avenues, Floral Park.

In preparation for the meeting, district officials have noted that throughout the 1990's, Sewanhaka has had one of the lowest annual tax rate increases in the entire Long Island region. The Board expects that this year again, the proposed rate increase will be small in comparison with other districts. At the same time, the new budget will enable Sewanhaka to prepare our students to meet the challenges of the Regents higher standards.

Dr. George Goldstein, superintendent of schools, reminds the public that our children cannot do without the curriculum advantages that their fellow students in other districts are receiving. The 2000-2001 budget proposal will be as lean as possible, but it will provide our children with the high level of education they need and deserve. The Board of Education and superintendent of schools look forward to the input and support of our community leaders as they develop the first budget of the 21st Century.

The Board of Education urges leaders of every community, business and professional organization in the Sewanhaka District to be present for this important meeting. District officials ask that anyone expecting to participate call 488-9800 to reserve time for addressing the Board of Education. The board and central administration also announce they are willing to attend meetings of citizens groups in March or April to explain the proposed budget. In the event a group wishes such a meeting they may call the above number to make arrangements.
