Community Halts Roosevelt Raceway Implosion
A coalition of local residents, civic leaders, commercial and retail business owners, and elected officials declared victory at a press conference held Nov. 5, in preventing developer Allen Silverman from imploding the Roosevelt Raceway grandstand. The conference, called by Gary Lewi, a representative of Fortunoff's Chief Operating Officer Norman Goldberg, gave interested parties an opportunity to voice environmental, health and quality of life concerns regarding the proposed implosion, which would have occurred the day after Thanksgiving.

American Legion Joins Toys for Tots
Floral Park American Legion Post #334 has joined the 1999 Toys for Tots Campaign sponsored by the US Marine Corps Reserve. In addition, Floral Park Toys for Tots Coordinator Jim Whalen, president of the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce, announces Post Commander Jim McDonald has joined the Toys for Tots Committee. New unwrapped toys for boys and girls will be accepted at the Post, 17 Elizabeth Street on Friday nights.

Knights of Columbus Bowling
Showing no mercy the Floral Park Knights of Columbus bowlers continued wreaking their weekly carnage on the Sterling Lanes lumber, adding another outstanding effort to the string of thrill-packed outings that have already dotted the "99-00" schedule. This year's exploits have, in the short season, all but erased every mark put on the record books. Going back more than a half century - and we still have 25 more weeks to go!
