The Knights of Columbus bowlers continued where they left off last season ¬ pounding the pins with typical K of C savagery, and enjoying their new surroundings ¬ Sterling Lanes, in New Hyde Park.
Mike Gallagher led the opening of the new season with a 649 sizzling set, built on games of 202, 216 and 231, edging a Bob Sheehan 637 three-gamer that had a 246 beauty in its make-up and Tommy Moore was there, with a solid 625, tossing a 229 and a 203 on the way. Paul Simonetti's 585 total included a 214 loner while Pat Murphy was using a 232 single to card a 548 triple, a step ahead of Jack Price's 209 solo, 542 trio. Fitibaldi had a solid 539, a step up on Eddy Hackimer's 529 and Eddy Goodloe spilled 524 sticks. Silvestri shot a 520, Rich Lahey a 506 and Fred Dorgler's 505 was a step up on a Jim Kearney 502. Bob Mashburn rolled a 500 and Mastronardi made The Elites with a 212 single effort. Sheehan was on the outside, looking in, with a 199 "almost."
Team action saw Tommy Moore lead his #6 crew to a 7-0 whitewash of Mike Honan's #5 unit while Eddy Hackimer was piloting his #4s to a 5-2 win over Pat Sweeney and his No. 3 combine. Jack Price and his No. 9 bunch were downed, in a 5-2 encounter by Bob Sheehan's No. 10 aggregation, while Eddy Goodloe and his No. 8s bowed to John O'Grady's Whatateam, via a 5-2 count. The No. 1 combine, led by Bob Mashburn, blanked the Simicish-led No. 2 outfit, in a 7-0 rout to end the night's activity.
