"J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets," is a popular cheer that Jets fans have been screaming for years. Now there's a new chant that's gaining popularity, started by a determined group of Long Island and New York City Jets fans ¬ "Bring Our Jets Home." The cheer shares its name with a recently incorporated not-for-profit organization.
"We founded Bring Our Jets Home in March, following our continued frustration of being considered the step children of New York sports," said Patrick Curry, a Long Island attorney and co-founder of the organization.
More than 42 charter members and 92 regular members have spent $100 and $30 respectively to join Bring Our Jets Home. The not-for-profit organization is comprised of Jets fans who are dedicated to bringing the Jets football franchise back to New York.
"We formed a core group of individuals and incorporated last March," said John Puccio of Floral Park, co-founder of the organization. "We now have over 130 members and have launched a public relations and advertising campaign. We are working to get our message out to the prospective buyers of the Jets franchise. We want them to know that Jets fans want their team back in New York," he added.
Bring Our Jets Home recently launched a website, www.jetsY2K8.com. The website highlights the fact that the Jets lease at the Meadowlands will expire in 2008. The organization is opposed to any extension of this lease and is calling on all New York Jets fans to join this endeavor.
