  • NEWS: Floral Park Resident Named Adelphi Recognition Award Scholar

    Floral Park resident Carolyn Abbott, a senior at Floral Park Memorial High School, has been named an Adelphi University Recognition Award Scholar for 1999-2000. She was specifically recognized for her participation in Key Club, Camp ANCHOR and the Girl Scouts. She said, "These activities helped me realize how important I am to others and how I can make a difference in someone's life." FULL STORY

  • NEWS: Kiwanis Distinguished Student Award

    Anthony Mineo of Sewanhaka High School was presented the Kiwanis Distinguished Student Award on April 6. Anthony is president of the Sewanhaka Key Club, the high school component of Kiwanis. As president he doubled the club's membership. He has dedicated over 1,000 hours in community service which included collecting thousands of can tops to raise money for kidney dialysis patients, sold iodine deficiency disorder ribbons to increase awareness of the disease, conducted a clothing drive for hurricane victims, wrapped gifts for underprivileged families and participated in Ronald McDonald House activities. The list of services is endless, and he still maintains an excellent scholastic average. Anthony is truly a distinguished and exceptional young man. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Knights of Columbus Bowling

    The Easter hiatus must have effected the eyes and arms of the Floral Park Knights of Columbus keglers, as evidenced by the unusual non-Floral Park-like exhibition that unfurled last Thursday, at the Bellerose Lanes. Only eight pin-spillers made The Hotshot list, miles off the week-after-week roll call of top bowlers, giving their fans the downside look of a really outstanding season. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Girl Scouts Join National Effort

    Thousands of girls throughout the country will be participating in a new program this year, initiated by the Girl Scouts of the USA, called GirlSports 2000. From Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, girls will participate in a series of sporting activities in their respective Girl Scout troops/groups. FULL STORY
