Floral Park Acting Village Justice William J. Corbett was recently elected vice president of the Nassau County Magistrates Association, an association of all the village justices and acting villages from the incorporated villages throughout Nassau County.

Judge Corbett will be sworn into office at ceremonies at an installation dinner to be held at the Tivoli Terrace in Westbury on Friday evening, May 8. Tickets are available by calling 775-0435.

Mr. Corbett is now in his 12th term as acting village justice and previously served as village prosecuting attorney for 11 years.

Judge Corbett's wife Ann has served 10 years as a village trustee and is currently commissioner of public works and buildings and is seeking re-election.

In the past Judge Corbett was nominated by Mayors Mangiapane, Friedman, Hayden, Lauria, Coppola and Corbett and has been confirmed by the village board each year for 23 years.

He is a member of the Nassau County, New York State and American Bar Associations and former chairman of the Ordinance and Administrative Regulation Committee of the Local Government Section of the American Bar Association. He is a former liaison board member of the Municipal Assistance Corporation of the City of New York. He is a member of the New York State Magistrates Association, co-program chairman of the Floral Park Lions Club, former director of the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce and the Long Island Association. He is second vice commander of the Floral Park American Legion and co-president of The Friends of the Floral Park Library. He is past president of the Southside Civic Association and is a board member of the Westend Civic Association.

The Nassau County Magistrates Association provides educational programs for judges and seeks ways to improve the administration of justice in Nassau County and throughout the State of New York.

Judge Corbett is the second Floral Park resident to serve as an officer of the Nassau County Magistrates Association. Justice Robert J. Minogue previously served as a board member, officer, and president of the organization.
