Dallas Buyers Club — Biographical drama set in the early days of AIDS treatment when AZT was still in experimental trials and AIDS patient Ron Woodruff was fighting the FDA to use unapproved yet effective drugs in treating the epidemic.

Gravity — Science fiction thriller about astronauts whose space shuttle is destroyed by a meteor storm and their attempts to get back to Earth.

Her — Director Spike Jonze’s writing debut is a science fiction romantic comedy about the relationship between a man and his intelligent computer operating system.

Nebraska — A road film about an ornery father traveling with his adult son to collect a sweepstakes prize that becomes about far more than claiming a monetary award.

Philomena — The true story of an Irish woman’s 50-year-search to find her adopted son.

12 Years a Slave — Adopted from the 1853 memoirs of Solomon Northrup, this historical drama tells the story of a kidnapped free black man sold into slavery.

The Wolf of Wall Street — A black comedy based on the memoir of former stockbroker and current motivational speaker Jordan Belfort.
