AutoFest Pulls Into Long Island

Car lovers from all over Long Island will come together on Sunday, July 21 when the New York AutoFest returns to Castle Gould at the Sands Point Preserve. The show, which is an anticipated favorite among automobile enthusiasts, will feature hundreds of show cars, trucks and bikes on a spectacular Gold Coast site.

This event will feature fun for the whole family, including raffles, prizes, food and music by DJ Rich.

There’s always something brewing on the North Shore of Long Island. Now add beer to the list. Breweries have hopped on the New York scene with such a buzz, it’s practically Oktoberfest year-round. And while most of the breweries are located on the east end of Long Island or in New York City, the Gold Coast’s Oyster Bay Brewing Company is the latest microbrewery to tap into the frothy, handcrafted beer trend.

The growler-sized craft brewery is located in downtown Oyster Bay, a hop away from Billy Joel’s 20th Century Cycles shop. In fact, the Oyster Bay neighbor has already made a visit to welcome the New-York-State-of-Mind brewery to the neighborhood.

If the words “Jewish Community Center” conjure images of ladies playing mah-jong and amateur stage adaptations of Yentl, you obviously haven’t been to the Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills.

Head-quartered in a sprawling, 185,000-square-foot building just off Northern Boulevard, this recreational, cultural, educational and social-services organization takes the word “community” quite literally and very seriously.

“This is not a religious organization,” said David Black, chief operating officer. “It operates out of Jewish values, but it is open to all of the people of the world.”
