Team Heads to Nationals in San Jose California

Under the direction of Farmingdale Head Coach Jim Gunn, the 18U travel roller hockey team, FLID Nation, entered the Eastern North American Roller Hockey Championships the weekend of June 12 and 13 in Old Bethpage.  They won the tournament, which gave them the bid to participate in the National Roller Hockey Championships in San Jose, CA.

The team consists of John Gunn, Patrick and Michael Lasher, Michael McMullen, Jeffrey Stern, Nick Vitale, Mike Kalista, Christian Letourneau, Dustin Muccio Schrimpe, and Mike Brolly.

Coach Gunn described the win as a total team effort with contributions by each member.  During the qualifying round they won 9-1, tied 3-3 and 6-6.  In the final round, FLID Nation beat the sponsored 18U Black Ice Tour team 7-4.  The championship game was against the sponsored Tour ’91 Road Runners.  In a close contest, FLID Nation won 4-2.

They will head west to San Jose for the 2010 Elite National Roller Hockey Championships.  FLID Nation will have the opportunity to compete against some of the best roller hockey teams in the country.

To benefit the team, Hooters Restaurant on Smith Street, in Farmingdale, will be hosting a benefit for the team on July 15 at 7 p.m.  The cost is $30 per person including a buffet and dessert.  Raffles and chances will be sold.  For any other information, contact Coach Jim Gunn at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
