With the scent of snow in the air, but fortunately several hours before it hit the ground in the big Dec. 19 snowstorm, several athletes from Farmingdale created a storm of their own with their award-winning performances in the 22nd Annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run through the streets of Bethpage.
Top finisher from Farmingdale was 27-year-old David Bogh, who crossed the finish line at the John F. Kennedy Middle School on Broadway in Bethpage in 18 minutes, 17 seconds, scoring seventh place overall and third in the highly competitive 25-29 age group.
Two determined Farmingdale ladies did especially well in the Athena Weight Division. Colleen Gardner, a 32-year-old who took first place honors in the Athena 160-pound plus weight division, finished with a time of 26 minutes, 22 seconds, and 27-year-old Kate Raab scored third in that same division with a time of 28:58.
Veteran Farmingdale runner Geza Feld captured the first place award in the 75-79 age group with a time of 29:14.
A total of 1,014 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes made it to the finish line.
The Ho Ho Ho Run was conducted under the auspices of the Greater Long Island Running Club, with GLIRC’s Ric Diveglio serving as the race director. The Melville Intellectual Property Law Firm of Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt was the title sponsor, with Local 338 also providing a big financial boost.
Proceeds from the event will be turned over to The Opening Word, an education program conducted by the Dominican Sisters for poor and uneducated Long Island women to give them the tools they need to become productive members of society.
Thanks go to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman and Nassau County Legislator-Elect Rose Marie Walker on hand to welcome the participants to the finish line.
“It’s great to see so many of our Farmingdale friends on hand for this year’s Run” Race Director Ric Diveglio said. “We were pleased to welcome Colleen, Kate, Geza and all the other outstanding Farmingdale athletes to Bethpage on December 19th.”
The 23rd annual Carter, DeLuca, Farrell & Schmidt Ho Ho Ho Holiday 5 Kilometer Run will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, so mark your calendars now.
