Yeah it was a bit windy, and there was a bit of a chill in the air, but the running conditions were nearly perfect for the nearly 600 runners and walkers who crossed the finish line of the Oct. 15 Oyster Bay Supervisor’s 5 Kilometer Run.
Runners from Farmingdale were especially prominent in this year’s Run, led by Juan Nonte, who scored second overall with a time of 15:29.
Other locals coming come with awards were Chris Daily (18:49, 2nd 50-54 age group), Joe Flick (20:21, 5th 30-34 age group), and Barry Kaplan (30:12, 4th 70-74 age group).
Greater Long Island Running Club Secretary Linda Ottaviano (who competed in the run and scored first among the women in the 55-59 age group) was effusive in her praise for those who made the event possible. Ottaviano said, “Supervisor John Venditto and the Town Board have been incredible supporters of local recreational sports, and we are thrilled that Councilman Chris Coschignano has now brought his law firm Sahn Ward Coschignano & Baker on board as our presenting sponsor. A special thank you goes to Farmingdale’s Bob Cook and the Runner’s Edge for helping us to bring Long Island’s fastest runners to Oyster Bay every year!”
