On Sunday, Oct. 3 twelve ‘Farmingdale Moms’ completed The Long Island Diva Half Marathon that took place in Eisenhower Park. Their training began 17 weeks earlier on the track at Farmingdale High School. For most of the twelve racers, it was the very first time they laced up their sneakers for this type of activity. These ‘Moms’ trained three times a week in order to raise their endurance from struggling to complete a 60 second run to completing the 13.1-mile race.
The Farmingdale Moms dubbed themselves ‘Divas in Training’ and all sported ‘Diva in Training’ shirts celebrating their achievement. The night before the race they enjoyed a one-mile family fun run with their children followed by a pasta dinner celebration. On race day the 12 women cheered one another on as they each crossed the finish line in less than three hours. The Farmingdale Moms were rewarded with tiaras, a rose, a glass of champagne, a beautiful racing medal, a sense of pride and proof that age is just a number.
