Nicolas Prossimo and John Speelman of Farmingdale, who play for the Levittown Ice Falcons in the Nassau County High School Hockey League, made the All Star Nassau Team.

With the threat of snow, the Nassau County Swimming and Diving Championship meet was shortened last weekend. Normally the competition consists of a preliminary qualifying contest on Friday night, where the top 20 swimmers return to swim again on Saturday morning in the finals for the top 10 and consolations top 11-20. This year due to the weather forecast, the preliminaries were cancelled and Friday night’s competition became the finals for Nassau County.
Coached by Ken Ilchuk, Randy Corcoran and Kelly Harris, the Dalers rose to the challenge and finished ninth in Nassau County out of 25 teams and most every Farmingdale swimmer turned in their best and fastest time.
The Farmingdale Community Summit Council is pleased to once again present Farmingdale Jumps on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Farmingdale High School gym.
The Harlem Magic Masters (featuring Speedy and Mugsy) will be taking on the Farmingdale Tornados (an all-star team consisting of school district teachers, administrators and community members) in an exciting exhibition basketball game. Halftime will feature the Magicmasters famous skills show and the Farmingdale High School Cheerleaders will perform. Tickets are $10 and are available through each school’s PTA. Buy them early to assure a seat.
The doors will open at 6 p.m. and hot dogs, soup, candy, chips and drinks will be available for purchase in the cafeteria. The Magicmasters will sign autographs after the game. Souvenirs and raffles will also be available. The event proceeds will be shared by the PTA Council to support their scholarships and the other half will go to the Farmingdale Summit Community Council’s Family Assistance program. Come out to the game and share in the fun.
Tickets will be available at the door on a first come/first served basis.
The Dalers varsity black roller hockey team, coached by Jim Gunn, Gabe Vitale, and Steve Sloane, currently holds second place in the Island-wide Roller Hockey High School League. Their record is nine wins, four losses, and one overtime loss for a total of 19 points in Division 1.
The Dalers opened the postseason with a second place finish at the Division A Swimming and Diving Championships last week. The boys were bested only by Great Neck South, currently ranked as one of the top two teams on Long Island. The Dalers, coached by Ken Ilchuk, Randy Corcoran and Kelly Harris, beat rival Massapequa, Herricks, Westbury and Syosset, a Conference I team.
Runners of all ages and levels of ability are cordially invited to join in the fun at the annual Runner’s Edge Winter Fun Run on Sunday morning, Feb. 28. The run is being co-hosted by the Runner’s Edge and the Greater Long Island Running Club, with Runner’s Edge CEO Bob Cook and GLIRC Fun Run Chair Sam Zinn sharing the event director’s chores.
