Over The Hill Gang Softball Report: June 7, 2012

Written by Jerry Mazza Friday, 08 June 2012 00:00

Okay softball fans, we know everyone is anxious to see who will be this week’s Over the Hill Gang Player of the Week. The wait is over; it’s Bar-Boy’s Frank Badalamenti. He had an absolutely terrific game at the plate Friday night. He went four-for-five with two home runs, before driving in seven runs and scoring five times as Bar-Boy beat Autocraft, 20-13.

More game highlights will follow, but first congratulations go out to BK Sweeney’s. Friday marked the midway point in the Over the Hill Gang season and BK is the only undefeated team in the league. BK holds a commanding three-game lead over Singleton’s in the American League (AL) and is rolling past everyone who comes their way.

Congratulations to Lockie & Nowachek (L&N) Family Chiropractors outfielder Damon Pishva, the latest Over the Hill Gang Player of the Week. In only his second week back from arm surgery, Pishva went 4-for-4 runs scored. In the outfield, he made numerous outstanding catches to help lift L&N to a 14-2 win over McCourt and Trudden (M&T) Funeral Home.

Pitcher Ben Greco has also been outstanding keeping the M&T batters off stride. Other top players were Thomas Joseph who was 3-for-3 with two RBIs; rookie Pete Hajko who had an over-the-fence two-run home run and four RBIs; and rookie Rich Apollo who hit a tremendous home run and had three RBIs. This was a complete team effort.

Zwanger Pesiri Radiology’s (ZP) rookie Sean O’Flynn is the latest winner of the Over the Hill Gang “Player of the Week” honors. O’Flynn had four hits, including a bomb to left field that cleared the bases. He had five RBIs for the night. In the field, he made all the plays at third base in ZP’s 26-18 win over Paradox Cafe.

ZP needed O’Flynn’s bat and plenty of others in a back and forth slugfest. The team finally found some breathing room with a six run in the 7th inning. John Hernandez, Marc Fischer, Russ Graham, Bino Reverberi, Rich D’Amico and O’Flynn all slammed consecutive two-out, RBI hits.

Congratulations to Zwanger Pesiri Radiology (ZP) shortstop Russ Graham. He is the Over the Hill Gang “Player of the Week.” Graham’s fantastic defense and timely hitting were the driving force behind a big ZP win. Graham made several over-the-shoulder grabs; one saved two runs in a very tight game. He also turned a number of double plays with second baseman Sean O’Flynn. At the plate, he had three hits including a clutch two-out RBI single and a long double.

ZP beat Changing Times Pub 9-4. Pitcher Brian Tinney was superb, holding CT to only four runs after the hot hitting team scored 58 runs in its first three games. Tinney had plenty of defensive help, especially from middle infielders Graham and rookie O’Flynn. The pair combined for three double plays to end potential CT rallies. The outfield was also solid. Vinny Foppiano, Bino Reverberi and Tom Dittmeier roamed far and wide to track down CT drives.
